The Annual Portrane Hockey Club Fundraising Golf Classic will take place on Friday the 7th May 2010 in Donabate Golf Club.

Tee Off time is between 9.00am - 4.50pm sharp.

This is a four person team event with four ball teams teeing off at ten minute intervals on one of Dublin’s friendliest and most enjoyable coastal parkland courses.

 Portrane Hockey Club, situated within the Portrane Donabate peninsula, celebrates its 91st year in 2010. The club currently has adult teams in both men‘s and ladies where we have a strong working relationship with Swords Ladies Hockey Club who provide great assistance in coaching the kids. We also have our very successful veterans’ team who bring a very sociable and nostalgic dimension to our club. However, it is the continued development and expansion of our schoolboy and schoolgirl hockey programme that is of paramount importance to our club. We have over 100 Juvenile members in our Club from Under 8s to Under 16s.

The goal of the Club is to provide, promote and expand the game of hockey in the Portrane Donabate area and also taking in the surrounding North County Dublin. All funds raised we guarantee to reinvest into our juvenile section. The monies raised from last year’s Golf Classic allowed us fund an introductory hockey programme, state of the art indoor hockey boards and funding for the coaching of hockey into all of our local primary and second level schools. The Club was delighted and very proud to fully assist the new Donabate Community College who participated in the Leinster Schools Hockey Leagues in both boys and girls Under 14 level. The commitment by the Club to introduce hockey into our local Primary Schools is now well established with a weekly hockey programme going into our 3 local Primary Schools and also this year into 3 Primary Schools in Swords.

In June of this year construction of the new international standard water base pitch will commence with the official opening of this world class facility on schedule for September 2011. This facility will not only be an enormous boost for Portrane Hockey Club but for all sporting clubs within the peninsula and wider Fingal area. As a re-emerging Club gathering recognition we are asking you to support our Golf Classic which is a valuable source of fundraising towards the substantial costs in running our Club. The day will consist of a round of golf on one of Dublin’s premier golf clubs including surprise goodie bags, barbeque on the 10th and complimentary drinks during your round of golf. Your evening will conclude in the Clubhouse with a three course dinner where the presentation of excellent prizes and Club Draw will take place. Prizes to include top three  teams, nearest the pin and longest drive. We are fully committed to continuing and improving our event each year and we can guarantee another wonderful day for all participants on the 7th May 2010. All funds raised go towards the development of Portrane Hockey Club and its facilities and also to promote, provide and expand the game of hockey in the Portrane/Donbate area and also taking in the surrounding North County Dublin.

Congratulations to the Swords ladies first team who defeated Navan 5-0 last Saturday to capture the Championship title in the league.

This is a great achievement and something the girls and the technical staff have been working on for a long time

All the hard work finally paid off!!
